Generally whenever we read Agatha Christie, we have a certain genteel scenario presented before,us,with cold blooded murder involved of course.
But this novel isn't like that. There aren't any parlours, no talk of decorum, no tongue-in-the-cheek dialogues. In fact this one is a comparatively fast paced version of Christie, retaining its lucidity definitely.'They Came to Baghdad' is a change from the usual Christie's that you read. It has action and spies and has a backdrop as severe as a possible war between two countries. It differs monstrously from her much popular murder and suspense novels.
To tell about the plot:
An adventure seeking girl Victoria, goes all the way to Baghdad from England with a family she started working for. She wanted to go to Baghdad to find her lover Edward, whom she met for a while in England. A girl driven by passion for love and adventure realises that she falls into the trap of a fanatic who dreams of a different world. She thinks it all started when a British spy died in her hotel room, but she was a pawn on the board way before that. A pawn to be sacrificed. She realised love isn't really what it seems. With her ability to keep calm and wind up wondrous stories in the blink of an eye, Victoria ultimately survives and also saves the lives of many.
There isn't any Poirot or Miss Marple here, but it does make for a racy read.
